ABOUT
Then Now When has begun life as a side project to allow us to explore creating client focused, design led projects. Between us we have over 30 years experience in practice working on predominantly residential projects. Starting the practice as a part-time endeavour has allowed us to ensure the practices follows the sustainability and well-being principals that we hope to continue as the practice grows.

One of the main reasons we love our Then Now When projects is working directly with clients to help meet their aspirations for their homes. Each of our projects is bespoke and we work on every detail to ensure that it works for the building and its users.

James is an experienced Architectural Designer and Heritage specialist. Currently an affiliate member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation and is working towards accreditation for Associate Membership. His current day job is predominantly working on high end residential projects.
James grew up in Bath and has worked in Bath (and further afield) for over twenty years on numerous projects. He always finds that his work has an aspect of balancing the historic with the progressive: it needs to with the challenge our environment faces.
Projects include the restoration of many listed buildings, protecting their history for future generations. However, the core of these projects has been residential in all forms.
When not working James can still be found sketching.... or just cycling up a good hill!
Anna is a Chartered Architect and is studying a Masters in Sustainable Buildings at the Centre for Alternative Technology, splitting her time equally between her studies and Then Now When projects. She has also recently qualified as a Certified Passive House Designer.
Her design work is user focused creating architecture that is both practical and beautiful. One of her favourite aspects of a project is material selection as this can be so impactful to the final feel of a project as well as the health of users, contractors, the building and the sustainability of a project.
Outside of work Anna's love of architecture doesn't stop, she enjoys going to visit amazing and interesting architecture, both new and old. Aside from this she loves to go for long walks and hikes.
